Judging the Post Office Travel Blogger Awards

Throughout my journalism and travel writing career, I’ve been lucky enough to pick up a couple of awards for my work. But I’ve never experienced being on the other side of things by sitting on a judging panel. Until now.

This month, Post Office Travel Insurance are on the hunt for the 2018 Post Office Travel Blogger of the Year. They’re seeking out two bloggers, across the Affordable Travel and Travel & Food categories to each showcase their best blogging talent and the chosen winners will each receive an amazing £5,000 prize towards the trip of a lifetime.

Amazing, right?

After receiving over 200 nominations and carrying out a rigorous shortlisting process, The Post Office have compiled a shortlist of 10 travel bloggers for each of the two categories. From now until Tuesday 17thJuly, you, the public, can vote which writers you think showcase the best travel blogging talent. And alongside a panel of judges, which includes the award-winning travel blogger Emily Luxton, I will help decide which two entrants should be crowned the Post Office’s travel blogging stars for 2018.

There was once a time when travel writing and travel blogging were two very separate things. When I think back to when I trained to become a journalist over 10 years ago, I never would have dreamed that you could be paid to travel the world – and work for yourself while you’re doing it.

But today, travel blogging has had a huge impact on the travel industry and has become a credible profession. I’ve always admired entrepreneurs and freelancers who carve out their own careers and there’s never been a more exciting time to be a part of the industry.

I’m so excited to be part of the Post Office’s judging panel and I’m really looking forward to discovering some of the best blogging talent out there.
