Zanzibar was one of the favourite places I visited in Africa. This was thanks partly to the beautiful Zawadi Hotel where we spent a few days relaxing on the east coast and thanks largely to the colourful culture we discovered in Stone Town.
The wellbeing travel industry is now bigger than ever before and interestingly, Africa is a key contender, with – you guessed it – Zanzibar shooting high up on the radar for wellness travellers.
I was commissioned to write about ‘the Spice Island’ for Balance magazine, an excellent magazine which is distributed, for free, to 200,000 Londoners and is well worth picking up if you’re interested in mindfulness and wellbeing. My travel feature for Balance focused on the wellness experiences you can explore in Zanzibar, the history of their spice industry and the many Swahili healing experiences you can find while you are here. My top tip is to visit the Mrembo Spa while you’re in Stone Town where I experienced an invigorating Singo Scrub, a traditional ceremony practiced on Swahili brides before their big day.
If you’re interested in reading more about this destination, feel free to check out my blog archives. Some of my top posts include A Paradise Stay at Zawadi, Zanzibar Doors – Intriguing pieces of history in Stone Town and Reasons to Fall in Love with Zanzibar.
Otherwise, you can read my feature The Spice of Life, over on the Balance website here.
