Morning, how was your weekend? I’ve decided to run my guest blogger Q&A series on a fortnightly basis and this week, I have the lovely Zoe from THE ZRW taking part.
Zoe only started blogging in July this year, but has built up a great following already and her blog is very stylish so do check it out if you haven’t already.
If you are new to the blog, or my guest blogger series, feel free to check out some of my latest Q&As, including Binny Shah of Binny’s Food & Travel Diaries, Catherine Lux of Lux Life and Lucy of Wanderluce Blog.
I am looking for both established travel bloggers and travel writers to take part in my Q&As so if you’re keen to get involved, please get in touch, I’d love to hear from you.
But for now, it’s over to you Zoe…
Guest Blogger Q&A | Zoe, THE ZRW
Tell us about yourself
My name is Zoe and I am the face behind my luxury and lifestyle blog THE ZRW. Though London is my home my blog focuses on my travel adventures around the world. THE ZRW started in June 2017 but it is my baby which I intend to nurture and grow.
Why did you set up your blog?
Aged 16 I had a travel diary where I wrote down restaurant names and list of places that I had been to and wanted to remember. As a 16-year old I wanted to share those tips with other people. So, having my own blog is just a grown-up extension, on a bigger platform, of my travel diary. I also set up my blog because I have a huge passion for coaching people to achieve their dreams and I have a section (Zoe’s school of life) which focuses solely on that.
What’s your typical week?
THE ZRW is run alongside my job in the corporate world. It is hugely challenging managing my blog alongside a full-time job but I am a firm believer that if you have a passion for something, you will find a way to make it happen. I am usually up by 6ish and I blog before I start my day, I blog on my 25-minute train journey to and from work and I usually do some minor blog admin during my lunch break.
What do you love most about blogging?
I really enjoy pushing my creative side and developing new skills. I also find it really rewarding learning about how to market yourself, get better at photography and technical jargon like SEO, as I am someone who likes to grow and develop. I also love all the interesting people you get to meet. I find people so fascinating and believe you can learn from anybody.
What do you think is the key to a successful blog?
I think there are four things required to run a successful blog.
Firstly, you need to be your authentic self as that’s what gets people to engage with you.
Secondly you need to be consistent and ensure you regularly post.
Thirdly you need to have great content. The blogging world is over-saturated with people doing the same boomerang shots on Instagram, eating at the same restaurants and going to the same destinations and people want fresh content.
The last thing you need is a tribe. Everyone needs a tribe of people to cheerlead, support and simply be there for them through the blogging journey.
What kind of content can readers expect from your site?
THE ZRW provides readers with escapable luxury with lots of fun and aims to inspire people to step outside of their comfort zone and try new things. It is also a luxury travel and lifestyle blog with a twist, due to the fact Zoe’s school of life provides people with practical advice on how to be the best version of themselves.
Tell us something about yourself that people may not know..
I started flying unaccompanied when I was aged 4 during summer holidays from London to Sierra Leone to see my parents who were working there, so I would say I am a traveller. Also, while children were playing with dolls and putting makeup on I was always playing running late to the airport with my teddy bear Albert. Albert still exists and my childhood game has turned into reality. I am always running late to the airport and had another near-flight miss on my recent trip to Madrid.
What are your favourite travel and lifestyle blogs?
I have several favourite blogs but my all-time favourite blogs are Binny’s Food and Travel Diaries, Fresh and Fearless, Silverspoon London, Adventures of a London Kiwi, Lux Life and Posh, Broke and Bored.
What’s your favourite social media platform and why?
Instagram should be my middle name. I love it as a social media platform as I am a visual thinker and I really enjoy scanning through it for travel inspiration. I hate to confess this but when I wake up it is one of the first things I look at it. I do also like twitter as it allows me to interact with other bloggers.
Where are your travels taking you to next?
Having just purchased a new flat my travel plans are mainly centred around Europe. I have just completed a trip to Madrid and have weekend trips planned to Bruges and Lausanne. I’m also really tempted to book a beach vacation at Christmas.
Thanks so much Zoe for taking part in my Q&A and sharing your outlook on the blogging world! If you want to find out more about Zoe, you can follow her on twitter, instagram, Pinterest and of course, via her lovely blog, THE ZRW.
