We review the coconut massage by MILK Beauty…
Coconut oil seems to be one of the biggest natural products in the beauty and spa worlds right now. From using it as a healthy cooking oil alternative, to making your eyelashes grow (apparently) and moisturing your skin, it’s one of the biggest multi-purpose products that was given to us by no other than Mother Nature herself.
I’m a huge fan of coconut oil and absolutely ADORE the smell so when I heard about MILK Beauty’s coconut body massage, I jumped right at the chance to give it a whirl.
MILK is a mobile beauty service which – despite being a huge fan of mobile spas – I hadn’t heard of until the other week. They operate across London and offer everything from facials and waxing to manicures and of course, the coconut massage.
The booking process is all very easy with MILK Beauty (I also booked a spray tan later in the week), which is one of the great things about mobile spas. You pop the treatment of your choice in the ‘basket’, choose your time slot (there are loads), type in your address and then pop in your card details.
My therapist, Jo, arrived at my flat in the middle of the day, armed with a pop up massage bed, blanket and towels. She set up some relaxing music on her mobile, I lit some candles (to try and help get me temporarily out of ‘work mode’ and into ‘relaxation mode’) and the 60-minute treatment began.
I’m lucky enough to say I’ve reviewed all sorts of spa therapies with my job, so I am a bit of a stickler for attention to detail. So while I noticed the bed was a little bit creaky and that the towels didn’t cover the entire bed, the blanket was super soft and the music was nice and relaxing. It was also a nice touch to do a lavender essential oil inhalation before to help me relax into the treatment (you get the choice of lavender or an energising lime based oil).
Most importantly, the coconut body massage was excellent. My therapist started by massaging each leg, with long sweeping movements and then spent a good amount of time working on my back with various massage techniques. This bit was very painful when she reached my shoulders but she was one of a few therapists who have actually had the patience and determination to really tackle my knots! No pain, no gain, right?
Once she had worked on my back, I was asked to turn over and by this point, I’d just about reached a zoned out state – so the exact sequence of what she did next is a bit of a sleepy haze! What I can tell you, is my therapist continued the incredibly relaxing massage onto my arms and hands where the tension continued to lift. She also went back to kneading the sides of my neck and ended with applying pressure to the bottoms of my feet. I didn’t want the treatment to end.
While it was a bit of a downer that I had to jump up and shake myself out of my sleepy, relaxed state, by the end of the massage, the tension in my body had been seriously kneaded out. Plus, I was covered in the delicious scent of 100% natural raw coconut oil which thoroughly moistured my (normally sensitive) skin and lasted for the rest of the afternoon. Absolute bliss.
Until next time x
