Last week, Oh So London joined the opening party of the seasonal and consistently popular immersive dining experience, The House of Peroni. The latest month-long residency is known as Vita all’Interno (a Life Lived Inside). And it’s where creative director Suz Mountfort (of nomadic restaurant Gingerline) and immersive storyteller Reuben Feels, have transformed the Boiler House on Brick Lane into a vibrant Italian home.
Michelin-starred Accursio Craparo is giving the Autumn edition a Sicilian flavour as the house’s resident chef. He’s creating a six-course tasting menu – served up each Thursday and Friday – and small plates that encompass the seasonal produce of the Mediterranean island he calls home. Expect tapas-style plates like rice arancini with parmesan, lemon scent and chard, alongside sweet treats like crisp meringue kisses.
Star mixologist Simone Caporale of The Langham Hotel has also taken inspiration from her home in Italy. But it’s time spent with friends and family in Lake Como that influenced the Peroni cocktail recipes for this residency, each one reminiscent of this pocket of northern Italy in Autumn.
A twist on the classic Negroni comes with the addition of Peroni Nastro Azzurro and mandarin, while the Madre Bianca combines Bergamot and yuzu juice, with cypress tree syrup, vodka and of course, Peroni. Simone also recently gathered some bloggers together to invent their own cocktail creation. The winning title went to Alicia Fernandes and Natalie Milner – founders of Street Eats London. Their tipple ‘La Strada Di Casa‘ will appear on the menu for the duration of the residency.
Sit at the long communal table in the welcoming kitchen or in the dining room that’s reminiscent of a Tuscan vineyard, beneath overhanging cascades of autumn leaves by Paper Artist Francesca Signori, which bring autumnal colour to the stylish space.
The ‘laundry room’ bar is made to look the part with vintage washing machines and crisp white linen hanging on washing lines overhead.
Gain entry to the locked rooms upstairs by picking up a key from the residence’s pantry. For ‘The Dream’ bedroom, Set Designer Rhea Thierstein has created a surreal dreamscape featuring chairs floating in clouds, while the walk-in wardrobe is the setting for wearable paper items, including a white sculptural headdress, to play dress-up with.
Of course, the Italian home wouldn’t be complete without the music that gives each party its vibe, so resident DJs put out an upbeat soundtrack throughout each night of the event.
Whether you choose to go for the full gastronomic experience of the degustation menu or to pair your cocktails with tapas-style plates, make sure you head on over to The House of Peroni before the Italian residency winds up on November 25th for another season.
Until next time x
