I was incredibly excited to win a competition to visit the Brides The Show event in London recently. And if that wasn’t enough, my prize through Brides magazine included a front row seat to the Jenny Packham Midsummer Night’s Dream 2016 collection, plus a chat with the world famous designer herself.
This latest collection, is of course, inspired by Shakespeare’s enchanting play A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The catwalk show was a series of captivating gowns with opulent crystal and light reflecting beading, flowing chiffon and feather motifs. To add to the magical, fairytale effect, it was all presented along a secret garden-inspired setting. Each dress was beautifully inspired by the forest, wildlife, and an abundance of fairytale romance. After the show, Brides magazine editor Jade Beer spoke to Jenny about the collection, and presented her with various questions submitted by Brides readers.
Here are some of the highlights…
Here, Jenny speaks about the different approaches she takes for her ready-to-wear and bridal collections…
One reader asked whether or not wedding dresses will continue to move with the times and in keeping with catwalk fashion, or whether a classic wedding gown will always remain timeless. Here’s what Jenny had to say…
It was a true delight to be sitting front row for this fascinating interview and it really highlighted the amount of research, thought and of course, skill and hard work that goes into the creative process behind a new bridal collection, and the catwalk productions that follow.
As Jenny explained, there will be modern day influences on bridal collections which I am always excited about seeing and interpreting, yet the timeless, classic bridal gown will always exist in some way.
I’ll be showing you the highlights of the Midsummer Night’s Dream show very soon so stay tuned. And do tell me what you think about the new collection. I, for the record, think it’s wonderful.
Until next time x
