The thirst for independent espresso bars who serve quality coffee by day and boozy coffee cocktails by night is on the rise in London. And the next coffee-inspired cocktail menu has launched at the recently opened Holborn Grind.
Holborn Grind is the third of the ‘Grind’ group’s openings. There is of course the original and very hipster Shoreditch Grind, which followed by Soho Grind, which followed by the latest Holborn Grind – a lovely cafe space you’ll find inside the uber trendy Hoxton Hotel.
Like its sister espresso bars, Holborn Grind is home to faux-industrial fittings, bags of their Grind & Co. coffee beans and carries a cool, artesan feel. I sampled the coffee at their Shoreditch shop recently and it was one of the smoothest lattes I’d had in a long time.
The Espresso martini (The king of coffee cocktails) is a must if you come here during the evening. This blend of espresso, chase vodka and sugar syrup has been named by the Evening Standard as one of the ‘top 3’ in London. That’s quite a claim.
Other coffee-based cocktails include the Hot Flat White Russian (espresso with chase vodka, kahlua and milk) an Espresso Old Fashioned (espresso, bourbon, sugar and chocolate bitters) and the Tequila Mockingbird (espresso, tequila, triple sec and sugar syrup).
Plus you can enjoy a whole range of non-coffee cocktails such as margaritas and negronis.
Who knew drinking cocktails in coffee shops could be so cool?
Until next time x
