A week of travel events…

Phew. Last week was hectic. I went along to my firstTraverse Mingleevent – a great event that allows bloggers and travel writers to come together and network.

The Monday then kicked off with the start of the World Travel Market – one of the biggest travel events of the year.

And the week ended with a day at London’s Olympia for the Conde Nast Luxury Travel Fair.

Here are some of the highlights…

Traverse Mingle at the Hilton DoubleTree, London – Lots of Kir Royales, a fun photo booth and competitions.. all sponsored by Three Mobile. Here’s myself with Jen Lowthrop of She Gets Around, sporting some very cool glasses…

World Travel Market – Thousands of tourist boards, airlines, tour operators, bloggers and members of the media come together to network and get all the information on the latest products and services in the travel industry. Anyone who’s been will know this is where hundreds of exhibits, seminars, competitions and business events can be found all under one roof.

I attended a wonderful media lunch onboard the Sunborn Yacht in the Excel Docklands which was hosted by Hills Balfour PR and The Las Vegas Convention & Visitors Authority (LVCVA). It was a great way to find out about the latest Vegas attractions and what’s going to be big for 2015.

We were also served this fantastic lunch while on board the luxurious Sunborn Yacht.

I met some brilliant journalists and shared lots of travel stories with some lovely people from the LVCVA.

We then we all parted our ways to conquer the Excel centre for some more mingling.

At the South Africa Tourism stand experiencing #OculusRift – a virtual reality experience where you are sky-diving off Lion Rock, diving with sharks, walking with penguins and mingling in a Cape Town market. If you ever get to try it, it’s amazing! I obviously don’t have to go shark diving now I’ve done this…

Oculus Rift World Travel Market

I also attended a really useful seminar hosted by the The Malaysia Tourist Board, and swatted up on everything from tours to The Gambia to food tours in Macau. You really will find everything here.

After days of being on your feet at WTM, it took quite a lot to muster up the energy to get to Conde Nast’s Luxury Travel Fair on Friday. But the journey over to London’s Olympia paid off because it was brimming with industry professionals all keen to share what’s new in the world of luxury travel.

I spoke to all sorts of representatives, from river cruising specialists to South America touring companies and luxurious boutique hotels. It’s a brilliant source of inspiration – for both members of the public who want to plan an epic trip, as well as journalists and bloggers looking for brilliant new travel story ideas. It’s also great if you want to lounge about reading about all these places in opulent surrounds as there’s a very lovely champagne bar and restaurant on site. Ooh la la.

I now have to go through the piles of travel brochures, leaflets, business cards and magazines that I’m currently buried under in my living room.

But how’s that for a week of travel inspiration. Bring on travels of 2015…
