If you’re a girl, you live in London and most importantly, you share my love of shoes, the chances are you’ll love Selfridges Shoe Carnival.
As if the iconic shoe floor of Selfridges on Oxford Street couldn’t impress us enough with its endless shiny displays, individual designer boutique sections and to-die-for Louboutin section. Sometimes I just go up there to gawp at the beautiful beings, even if I have no intention of buying any.
So it’s exciting news that until April 21, the shoe lover’s shrine is holding the Selfridges Shoe Carnival event. It’s basically their way of adding a bit of excitement to their wonderful footwear department. There are also give-aways and entertainment for anyone who drops by.
I went along to the official shoe carnival celebration which kicked off last Wednesday, and it was packed with fashion followers in search of inspiration. They had also brought in some quirky entertainment for the special event.
Red leather-clad unicycle riders wooshed past me while a semi-naked feathered ‘angel’ strutted around in stilettos. They were from the world famous Cirque du Soir, and certainly added a feeling of anticipation to the event.
Music was blaring out and dozens of people queued at the candyfloss and smoothie stands. Sadly the queue was way too long for me to get anywhere near the intriguing ‘Bumby’s’ – ‘spy’-type detectives who gave cheeky appraisals of your shoes. Perhaps a good job in hindsight, my old faux-suede black knee-highs were looking pretty shabby.
It was also near impossible to get near the ‘Shoecam’ or photobooth. However, I did pay a visit to a cute little ‘cosmo stand’ where I was handed a little box of edible ‘gummy’ shoes – a perfect dose of sugar for all the shopping I had to do. At the Selfridges Shoe Carnival, you’ll find a LOT of tempting shoe displays.
How cool are these tropical flip flops? Perfect for a trip to the Caribbean don’t you think?
