Oh So London - the city life

It’s Monday morning, which means it’s time for the second week of The Travel Journo’s Guest Blogger Series. For this series, I’m focusing on bloggers in and around London who write about food, travel and lifestyle. Today’s fabulous blogger is Jess, founder of the fabulous Eating East blog.
 Over to you Jess!

Hi Jess. Tell us a bit about yourself…

Hi I am Jess and my blog is Eating East which covers restaurants and other foodie delights in East London. I post once a week and I have a full time job as a fashion buyer/designer for high street brands. I bribe my colleagues with cake and bring in ridiculous packed lunches.
.

Why did you start blogging and how do you fit it in?

I started because my friends were nagging me too, it is the output for my love of food and everything that surrounds it. I fit it in, easily! I eat out at least once a week and the writing is an evening treat.

What do you like writing about most?

I love writing about the experience of restaurants, the atmosphere is creates not just the food. My favourite post is almost always the last one a wrote! Or when someone is looking for a really specific restaurant, cuisine or dining experience and you have written about the perfect one.

Where do you live in London and what do you love about your neighbourhood?

I live in Dalston, the heart of East London, I love that there is constant flow of new ventures, be it restaurants, supper clubs, pop ups or food markets. I feel part of a new wave in the culture of dining and how food is evolving.

What is your number one hidden gem and why do you love it so much?

It is a café/bar in Shoreditch called ‘The Bridge’. It looks like nothing on the outside; then you go in, walk up the tiny staircase and the room opens out and it just isn’t what you are expecting… but I don’t want to ruin the surprise! It is the perfect date place, early evening or later on, but you could also take your parents there because it doesn’t have loud music blaring. You can sit comfortably and have a good conversation.

What has been your travel or foodie highlight of 2015 and why?

Probably going to La Gavroche and meeting Micheal Roux Jr! I asked him is favourite Patisserie in London, it is Pâtisserie des Rêves. He’s got good taste!

What has been the biggest lesson you have learnt about the blogging world?

Be nice to everyone, and take good photographs, no matter how hungry you are!

What are you looking forward to most about 2016?

Well looking to the future of food and dining I think there are a lot of new cuisines that are slowly becoming more mainstream, such as Korean and Japanese street food. I also think supper clubs, are going to be really big in 2016. They bring new dining experiences and inspiring chefs to the public.

Name 3 things that are still on your London foodie wish list

1. Billingsgate fish market – a true foodie commitment to buying fresh fish! I vow in 2016 I will go.
2. Tasting menus – my weakness and all-time favourite thing, will always be on my list. There is something about the indulgence of it all that makes it extra special.
3. The Blobfish Cafe that is going to open in East London in 2016….obviously! And we thought the Cat Cafe was strange…
Thank you so much to Jess of Eating East for taking part in the guest blogger Q&A. We can’t wait to hear about the Blobfish Cafe!
