If you like the idea of a golden glow that’s going to look great for the start of your holidays, but also good few days afterwards, you might be interested in the REN exfoliation and St Tropez spray tan provided by Spa by Car.
Spa by Car is a London based mobile spa so if you’re located in the capital, it’s good to have them on speed-dial. They’ll do anything from express manis and pedis and full make-up to more specialised treatments like Indian head massage and Lava Detox Tummy Treatments that use ice to give you a flatter tummy (yes really).
I’m always keen to try different spray tans and as you will know, if you can incorporate a really good exfoliation treatment before you tan, the chances are you will get a much better, longer-lasting golden colour that fades gradually, and most importantly, stays patch-free. So it was great to hear that Spa by Car provide a 30-minute REN Ultimate Body Scrub, followed by a 25-minute full body St Tropez Express Spray Tan – all within the hour – bonus!
Natalie, the therapist from Spa by Car was bubbly, chatty and set up the spa bed efficiently, making it all look ever so easy (they have a lot of kit to carry these ladies). We started with the exfoliation (naturally) where you can choose from either the REN Moroccan Sugar Scrub or REN Salt Body Balm. I went for the sugar scrub and whilst covered in soft towels, Natalie gently exfoliated different parts of me, limb-by-limb.
Once my arms, legs, tummy and chest were done, she did my back and removed all the scrub away with hot flannels. She then used a facial exfoliator to gently remove dead skin cells from my face. I’ve never associated exfoliation with being a relaxing experience but as the therapists thoroughly massage it in, I even found myself drifting off. It was like having a massage! After I popped in the shower to remove any excess product, my skin felt silky soft. It was then time to be zapped with the St Tropez gun.
The success of your fake tan is all in the prep as you’ll know and Natalie was meticulous about putting barrier cream on any dry areas such as your elbows and knees to avoid the tan gathing up too heavily. She also made sure I had ‘sticky feet’ on the bottom of my feet to avoid them changing colour (nobody wants that).
She popped up the spray tan tent as efficiently as she’d put the bed together and the process is fairly painless. Natalie made sure she wiped the palms of my hands and between my fingers to avoid the tan building up there and then we were all done.
The joy of mobile spas is of course that you can then relax in your home without having to nervously pull on clothes with the fear that it’s all going to smudge.
Robe back on, I was back to my desk within the hour. The next morning I showered as usual and it did transfer quite a bit to my bed sheets but it washes off fairly easily and I had one of the most natural but deep glows I’ve achieved from a spray tan. Yes, I looked just like Kate Moss…
Seriously though, I always dread the aftermath of spray tanning – you know the days when it begins to fade at different rates all over your body? And if you’re really lucky, you might get that lovely speckled effect as it comes off your arms. Attractive (not).
Hooray, there was minimal distress as this tan actually faded very gradually and bar a few tiny bits on my arms, there were no embarrassing spots to be seen. Nor did I really have to exfoliate again to take it off.
Brides, ladies, everyone – I would highly recommend this tan and I would 100% get the exfoliation first as it really makes the difference.
I think I’ll be booking in again next time I want a pre-holiday glow. Because we all want that glow before we jet off to sunnier climes, right?
Until next time x
