Tips for finding the perfect wedding dress

Oh So Hitched

I’m still in the early days of wedding dress shopping but I’ve been picking up some tips along the way from the experts.

Here, Jana Svalbe of MODE Bridal shares her Top 3 tips for brides who are about to start their search for the perfect dress.

1. Be open-minded about the dresses that might look good on you. Many brides begin their wedding dress shopping with a very specific idea of what they are looking for. But what looks good in a magazine or online may not prove to be right for your figure, or suitable for the type of wedding you are planning once you’ve tried it on. If you approach your search with an open mind, you may find that you end up buying a dress that’s completely different to the one you imagined. And even better.

2. Less is often more so choose retailers that have a great variety of styles rather than a huge number of dresses. Dress shopping can be very overwhelming so 20-40 dresses is plenty to choose from. Any more than that and you are at risk of getting completely overwhelmed and lost.

3. Build a rapport with the retailer. It’s vital you like the people you are dealing with before committing to buying the dress. After all, you are trusting them with your most important purchase and will need to speak with them over many weeks in the lead up to your big day. So you need to be comfortable that they understand your needs and will deliver on their promises.
