One half of ‘The Spice Men’, Cyrus Todiwala is known by many for his award-winning cuisine, and bringing his expert knowledge of Parsee food and heritage to London.
So I was delighted to meet the restaurateur and TV chef, with my very lovely friend Laura recently. We were at the first birthday celebration of The Hampton by Hilton Hotel in Waterloo, home to Cyrus’ restaurant Assado.
Assado is one of a handful of London restaurants Cyrus owns. The OBE holder is also the patron chef of Café Spice Namasté near Tower Hill, as well as the stylish Pan-Indian restaurant Mr Todiwala’s Kitchen, in Heathrow Airport where I first met him in 2011.
Following that visit, I wrote this piece The Spice of Life, for the news and lifestyle site, London Confidential. And of course, I got a quick (rather more youthful looking) snap with him and my beautiful friend Hannah, to add to the collection.
During the recent event at Assado, we were served some delicious tapas-style bites from the restaurant’s menu. The food here is an incredible fusion of Goan, Portuguese and Brazilian cuisine, so interesting dishes like Goan prawn curry, a ‘Bombay’ beef burger and chargrilled paneer are what you’ll typically find here.
As always, it was a delight to grab a few minutes with Cyrus. He’s a busy man these days with TV appearances, several restaurants to oversee and of course, the Khaadraas Club Dinner to run – also known as the ‘Greedy Pigs Club’. If you haven’t already heard of it, this is a popular supper club event held at Café Spice, where there is no menu involved and you simply enjoy a feast cooked up by Cyrus himself.
The downside is, this event sells out FAST. So hurry up and book your place. You heard it here first.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Hampton by Hilton Waterloo. We’ll definitely be back for some more of Cyrus’ incredible fusion cuisine.
Until next time x
