The fourth Thursday of November marks Thanksgiving – a time when people in the USA spend time with family, cook a giant turkey, eat pumpkin pie, and give thanks for everything they have. And if you’re a New Yorker, you might even watch the famous Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade.
But we Brits aren’t completely onlookers of this festive celebration. Thanksgiving is making its way over the pond and restaurants are adopting these culinary traditions in many forms. London restaurants included.
So the question is, can you celebrate Thanksgiving in London? The answer is yes you can. Well, of a sorts.
Head out to a restaurant in the capital on Thursday night and you could find all sorts of quirky takes on the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Here’s a lowdown on some of the best.
This popular Soho burger joint will be injecting some Thanksgiving inspiration into its already inventive burgers with the specially designed ‘Pilgrim’. Expect a 6oz turkey and thyme patty, with cranberry ketchup, hash and buttered sprout leaves and pigs on a stick and fries on the side (£10.95). Cool, funky and undoubtedly cool. It might not be your traditional Thanksgiving dinner, but it certainly has the signature flavours. Available 24th – 30th November.

GOOD LIFE EATERY
In honour of Thanksgiving, the uber cool Good Life Eatery in Chelsea is bringing its turkey offerings forward a few weeks. Believing that turkey is ‘not just for Christmas’, you can drop by this healthy caff any time from Thursday and get your tastebuds around a special Turkey & cranberry burger (£10.50). It’s served in a lettuce or brown bun and sounds just in keeping with this venue’s healthy ethos. The downside? They’re only serving them for two days – boo. So hurry before they run out.

HUBBARD AND BELL
They say it has a taste of a Brooklyn-style grill so that’s enough to interest me. And in American-style, the newly-opened Hubbard & Bell in the Hoxton Hotel, Holborn, will be celebrating the USA’s cornucopia of cultures with a special Thanksgiving menu.
Diners can enjoy traditional Smoked turkey leg and cranberry, pumpkin, green beans and for dessert, a big generous helping of Pumpkin Pie. Sadly, this menu is running for one day only. But hit up this place any other day and large family-style sharing plates and Italian and Jewish influences carry on this venue’s distinct American vibe.

THE GORGEOUS KITCHEN
If you’re jetting off to the States for Thanksgiving and are departing from the new Heathrow Queen’s Terminal, consider checking in a little earlier. That way you can drop by The Gorgeous Kitchen, a super glamorous restaurant that’s upping the game in airport dining.
Drop off your bags and get your appetite ready for Eggnog and Pumpkin Pie – a small but nice nod to the family holidays.
With classy interiors, fabulous views overlooking the runway, it’s a rather lovely way to kick off the holidays.
