JW Marriot’s new London Edition Hotel in Fitzrovia has opened. And apparently it’s oh so glam. Dying to go? Yep, me too.
If five star modern luxury is right up your street, the new London Edition could be your idea of travel heaven. This new lifestyle hotel is the brainchild of Marriott International and cooler than cool creative director Ian Schrager – founder of Studio 54.
In keeping with the Marriott Edition range, guests can expect stylish boutique accommodation with ‘one-of-a-kind’ food and entertainment and a quintessential British touch.
Award-winning Schrager already has an impressive history of opening high luxe hotels worldwide. After all, this is also the man – who along with the likes of French designer Philippe Starck – created London’s ultra modern Sanderson, and St. Martins Lane hotels.
This newest member of the Edition group has been developed in landmark Georgian townhouse buildings that were formerly the Berners Hotel.
And in true Schrager-style, the creative team, along with interior designer Yabu Pushelberg have transformed the Grade II listed building into a very clever display of old and new.
Guests can indulge in boutique-style rooms filled with dark walnut panels that are said to emulate the cosy cabin-like feel you get from a luxury private yacht.
Linen and silk drapes, huge fluffy throws and a tufted slipper chair also add to the luxury feel.
And traditional artwork that photographer Hendrik kerstens has given a modern twist to, also adds a trendy vibe.
Bathrooms are fitted with the obligatory rainforest showers and technology fans out there will get tingles when they see the 46” TV screens which come in each guestroom. You can even request your own specially programmed iPad or IPod to use in your room during your stay.
If you manage to leave the luxury of your room, the London Edition is home to Berners Tavern – a high-end restaurant run by highly esteemed chef and founder of Mayfair’s flagship Pollen Street Social, Jason Atherton.
With bronze chandeliers inspired by NYC’s Grand Central Station and a VIP dining room, it sounds like a foody’s delight.
And with Christian Liaigre black metal furniture, 24-karat gold Salvador Dali inspired floor lamps and 18th Century tapestries, we think The London Edition Hotel could be worth the visit for the lobby alone.
It’s now open to the public too. Who said Autumn was cold and dull?
This super cool lifestyle hotel gives us one big reason to stay indoors.
