Saturday spot: Venn Street Market, Clapham

venn st signIt’s Saturday, you want to explore some of London’s best produce markets – where do you go? Personally I’m a fan of Venn Street Market in Clapham, just by the common. It’s not very big but is around a dozen market stands with all sorts of freshly made cakes, juices, hot snacks, and plants.

There’s a lovely atmosphere round there too.

So here’s why you need it in your life!

Cakes  – there are loads – brownies, cookies, cakes, scones, pastries, beautiful meringues – there’s even a large emphasis on the gluten-free variety.

Beautiful plants stands – much cheaper than buying them on the high street I imagine and if you get there early, you’ll possibly get some of the best bunches of flowers to0.

Bottles of freshly press juice and cordials – this is so farmers market!

Hog roast / pulled pork, whatever you want to call it. It’s everywhere at the moment and stuffed into a fluffy bun, it is the most delicious Saturday afternoon treat.

The wine stand – of course. No explanation needed. But if you’re buying booze here, you can guarantee it’s ethically sourced.

And if you’re done perusing the market, Venn Street in Clapham has a very arty and cool vibe. Personally I think it feels a bit French with all the al fresco dining, the bistros and very classy coffee shops. There’s also the Clapham Picture House and the very cool cocktail bar Venn Street records if you’re that way inclined.

If you want to escape the hoards of tourists who flock to the likes of London’s Borough Market and Spitalfields each weekend, it’s a much more local, low-key option too.
